First Lutheran Church

302 S. 10th Street, St Joseph, MO 64501

On January 18, 1914, the First English Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation dedicated this building as their house of worship. That week, dedication services were held in German, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. The congregation was originally formed in 1866 and met at several locations before this building was dedicated, including Unity Chapel, where the St. Joseph Newspress Building now stands, the courthouse, Oak Hill School, the Unitarian Church, the YMCA and a previous building of its own between 8th and 9th street on Edmond. The new edition just south of the church was constructed in 2011.
